Boca Grande Real Estate

Paradise On Boca GrandeNestled in between Charlotte Harbor and the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico is the beautiful island town of Boca Grande. Located on Gasparilla Island, Boca Grande FL offers a unique kind of island living. Rich with history, entertainment and natural beauty, Boca Grande Florida is a perfect home setting for both adventurers and leisure seekers.

Boca Grande is located midway between Ft. Myers and Sarasota, Florida.  Boca Grand is easily accessible by car, boat or plane. Because of its location, Boca Grande Florida is considered to be part of both Lee and Charlotte counties. Not far from three major airports, quiet coastal living is still in close proximity to the rest of the world. Miles of pristine sandy Gulf beaches, shopping, dining and beautiful weather year-round awaits you in Boca Grande. Even on the hottest days that Southwest Florida has to offer, you can always find relief in Boca Grande from the cool Gulf breeze or under the shade of the nearest palm.

A Beautiful Beachfront Home on Boca Grande Boca Grande fishing is second to none.  Known as the “Tarpon Capital of the World,” Boca Grand was originally inhabited by the Calusa Indians. The Calusa’s were master fisherman, as were the first settlers of the island. Many of these first settlers were Cuban, and as early as the 1870’s were catching huge amounts of fish in Boca Grande’s Gulf waters to ship back to Havana. From then on, Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande’s Gulf areas were major attractions for British and American sports fisherman. This fishing tradition lives on today and makes Boca Grande a highly sought after destination for boaters and fishing enthusiasts.

Boca Grande’s history can also be seen in it’s landmarks that still exist today. Hundred-year-old lighthouses, historical homes and cabanas and more are dabbled along the islands’ coast, as well as historical remnants in downtown Boca Grande, including the old railroad station (now the beginning of a bike and Golf Cart path which travels along the old railways!). There is plenty to explore on this seven-mile paradise island, including its unique history. It is said that the famous pirate Jose Gaspar once made Boca Grande Florida his home, hence the name of the island chain, The Gasparilla Barrier Islands.

View of Lemon Bay from Boca GrandeBoca Grande FL manages to retain its “Old Florida” charm, and proudly boasts that all seven miles of the island are free of high rises and stop lights. Don’t let this small beach community’s quiet and casual demeanor fool you; Boca Grand has something to offer everyone. Even if you aren’t interested in the sandy white beaches, fishing, shelling, boating, sailing, swimming or just sunning that the breezy Gulf has to offer, Boca Grande has a whole lot more. Fine dining at great restaurants, visiting art galleries, and shopping at boutiques and unique shops and more give this somewhat sleepy beach town a hip coastal flavor.

Speaking of coastal flavor…many of the islands’ restaurants provide delicious fare straight from the Gulf waters to your table. Snapper, grouper, redfish, snook, mackerel, kingfish, and of course, tarpon, teem through the Charlotte Harbor and Gulf waters. Even if you aren’t an angler at heart, this island getaway is a seafood lovers’ delight. Still want more? In close proximity to both Sarasota and Fort Myers, sports games, concerts, plays, golfing, shopping malls, movie theaters, indoor recreation and more are all within your reach, and just a short drive (or boat ride!) away.  Want to explore other coastal regions? Boca Grande is also near to a number of other small island communities for you to explore, including Marco Island, Sanibel, Captiva, Palm Island, Gulf Cove, Cape Haze and Gasparilla Island.

Boca Grande Florida also boasts a number of wildlife protected areas for you to explore. Manatees, dolphins, pelicans and a number of protected species also make Boca Grande their home. On land or at sea, there are a great many ways to enjoy the nature coast of the Gulf in Boca Grande Florida. The Gasparilla Sound boasts estuary lands over 750,000 acres in total, where the brackish water is home to a number of ocean fish species. Large sea mammals, exotic coastal birds and of course, various species of Gulf fish are all here for you to see and explore. There are also three state parks in the Boca Grande FL area, including Cayo Costa, Gasparilla Island State Recreational Area and the Don Pedro Island State Park. These parks are perfect locations for picnics, swimming and other recreation and offer nature trails, camping and more.

Deserted Boca Grand BeachBoca Grande FL Real Estate is phenomenal, and many people make Boca Grande their permanent home.  With a median age of 55 for both men and women and a population barely over 1,000 (as of 2005), you’ll be sure to know your neighbors! Many residents get in touch with the latest community news with their weekly newspaper “The Boca Beacon” and also learn about the history of their island home with tours of historic Boca Grande. Today, the main economic base of Boca Grande lies in fishing and tourism—making the traditions of the past a part of their amenities of today. Most of Boca Grande’s locals are either fisherman, retiree’s or wealthy winter residents, making this Gulf community a unique area to work, play, or just while away the hours.
